The NYC Teaching Fellows program recruits talented and dedicated individuals to raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need teachers the most.

A good teacher can mean the difference between a student graduating from high school or dropping out, between a college-bound student and one who does not apply. Yet, too often, the students with highest needs do not have enough good teachers. Become a NYC Teaching Fellow and help to change this reality.

New York City schools have an especially critical need for qualified science teachers. Science education offers students the opportunity to innovate and become competitors in the field. As a science teacher, you will be uniquely positioned to inspire students to dream of careers in science and to draw connections between the lab and the real world. Share your love of science with New York City's youth by becoming a science Fellow.

Through this program, a Fellow can become a full-time teacher in a New York City public school within a few months of enrolling. By teaching in schools and subject areas that are traditionally hard to staff, NYC Teaching Fellows concentrate their talents in the areas where they can have the most impact. Today, most Fellows for our June 2012 program will be trained to teach either special education or science, where shortages of qualified teachers are most critical.

No previous teaching experience or education coursework is necessary. Fellows enroll in an intensive pre-service summer training program and then earn a subsidized master's degree while teaching at a New York City public school.

NYC Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of backgrounds and careers including engineering, healthcare, finance, advertising, and the arts. Fellows may be recent college graduates or have worked in an industry for many years. Fellows use their experience, knowledge, and achievements to positively affect the lives of students.

Today, more than one in ten New York City public school teachers started their career with the Teaching Fellows program. This is your opportunity to join a growing group of motivated and energetic professionals who are answering the call to teach in the classrooms that need them most.
