DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER oversees Lark's successful and growing fundraising program raising $1 million annually. As a play laboratory organization, not a traditional producing theater, Lark's budget is 98% contributed revenue so this position is a crucial part of Lark's fundraising team consisting of the Artistic and Managing directors, Development Associate, outside fundraising counsel, and event producer. This position has growth potential and is ideal for someone with an interest in development and supporting individual artists as well as an interest in growing the department as Lark grows.

Primary Focus: This position is responsible for stewarding Lark's primary initiatives focused on building our major donor base in addition to monitoring all development activities.

Reports to: Managing Director

Manages: a Development Associate and a part-time intern

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the annual work plan and grants calendar for individual and institutional giving, including tracking and monitoring of all cultivations, solicitations, applications and reports
  • Oversee two annual appeals (both paper and electronic)
  • Draft numerous annual and one-time grant proposals and reports to private and corporate foundations, U.S. and foreign governments
  • Draft major donor correspondence
  • Drive weekly fundraising team meetings and annual strategy planning meetings.
  • Interface with individual artists and partner organizations in creating grants and reports
  • Oversee gifts processing and acknowledgment executed by the Development Assistant
  • Implement one or two donor cultivation events annually
  • Interact with Board members during annual appeal and manage board Event Committee as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years professional hands-on experience in fundraising
  • Superb writing skills and track record in writing proposals and donor requests
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, shepherding the process of grant writing
  • Ability to manage up with a collaborative and respectful style.
  • Ability to synthesize information from notes and conversations into well-crafted grants and correspondence language
  • Impeccable organizational skills and very detail oriented; ability to juggle many priorities and shifting work plans.
  • Multi-tasker in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player who likes to work as part of a growing, integrated staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel including fast typing skills
  • Experience with fundraising database highly desired; knowledge of database architecture a plus
  • Development experience in theater or the arts a plus
  • Interest in new play development process a plus
  • Candidate should want to focus on development or a related area as career path
  • Must be able to lift and carry the equivalent of a 30 pound box
